A guy on the old SOCOM forums told me to back up my save to a zip drive, and I ignored him for 6 months
Honestly I figured the PS2 memory card would outlive me, but my SOCOM II file with 400 hours of clan war stats corrupted in 2009 and I never got it back. The fix would have taken 20 seconds with a $12 USB stick and a copy of uLaunchELF. Anyone else lose a save they would pay real cash to get back?

Wait, it died in 2009? My SOCOM II card from 2005 still works fine, that's terrifying.
