Skeptical about my office job's push for 25 minute walks, then I started sketching at lunch
Our office in Denver started pushing these 25 minute walk breaks back in March and I rolled my eyes hard at the email. I finally gave in after a rough Tuesday, brought a little sketchbook instead of my phone, and ended up drawing the same brick alley off Wazee Street four times in one week. Turns out the walk was never the point, the sitting still with a pencil was. My day job pays the bills but those 25 minutes are the only time I actually make something, anyone else sneak a real hobby into their work day like that?
The walk was never the point, the sitting still with a pencil was. That is a nice story but it proves the opposite of what you claim. If sitting still is what matters, you can do that at your desk, in a break room, or on a bench outside the building. You do not need a company sponsored walk for that. The walk is what got you out of the office and away from your screen, and that is the only reason the sketching happened at all. Most people who "sneak a real hobby into the work day" are just avoiding their jobs, and the boss pushing walks knows it keeps you from burning out and quitting.
