The payphone at St. Mark's still takes a dime, nobody noticed
I walked past that old payphone by the bodega on 3rd and Second yesterday, the one that's been there since I was a kid. The screen still reads 25 cents but I dropped a dime in out of habit, and it actually rang through. I stood there for a minute, listening to the dial tone, and realized I couldn't remember the last time I called anyone from a phone that wasn't in my pocket. Does anyone else get weirdly unsettled by the stuff that just stays put, like it's waiting for a world that already left? What's the oldest working thing you've seen hanging around your neighborhood lately?
