Spent 45 minutes trying to open a jar of pickles last night

I was starving after a 12 hour drive and all I wanted was some pickles. That jar lid would not budge no matter what I tried. Ran it under hot water, smacked the bottom, used a towel for grip - nothing worked for 45 straight minutes. Finally grabbed a butter knife and pried the edge until air hissed out. It opened right after that. Why do companies make those lids so tight when they know normal people have to eat?

The rubber band trick changed my life. Just wrap a thick rubber band around the lid and it gives you enough grip to twist it off without breaking a sweat. Works Every Time for me now.

Yeah but then the rubber band snaps and hits you in the face.

That "45 straight minutes" part got me. Reminds me of the time I spent an hour trying to open a bottle of maple syrup on a road trip. Finally gave up and asked a gas station clerk, and he just tapped the lid hard on the counter once and it twisted right off. Felt like a total fool, but also like that guy was some kind of lid wizard. Ever accidentally break something from twisting too hard, like a pickle jar that finally gives but sends juice everywhere?
