That $60 windshield chip repair saved me a full replacement in Tucson

Drove through a construction zone on I-10 yesterday and took a pebble right to the glass, the crack spidered across my whole view before I even parked. A mobile guy near the Walmart on Grant Road filled it for 60 bucks in twenty minutes, said it would hold fine if I avoid sudden temperature swings. My insurance deductible was 500, so I basically dodged a nasty surprise bill this morning. Has anyone else gambled on the cheap chip fix and had it spread later?
