My 11 year old nephew asked why I check the sky twice before grilling, and I couldn't give him a good answer
We were out in the yard Saturday on Hickory Street and I did my usual glance up at the clouds before lighting the coals, and he just watched me do it. When he asked what I was looking for I said rain, but it was 78 and clear and there wasn't a cloud anywhere. Turns out I've been doing it since a cookout got rained out back in 2019, and I never once thought about whether it actually helps. Now I'm wondering how many other little habits I have that stopped making sense a long time ago. What small thing do you do out of habit that you couldn't explain if a kid asked you?
