The pinky promise with my 4-year-old that stuck for a whole month

I made a silly pinky promise with my daughter to not snack after 8pm, just to get her to stop asking for popcorn during movie night. Turns out she held me to it every single night, and I actually followed through for 31 days straight. I lost 4 pounds without changing anything else, just by cutting those late night chips and cookies. It was wild how a kid's memory made me stick to something my gym membership never could. Has anyone else used a kid's obsession with rules to break their own bad habits?

That whole "make you feel guilty" thing is spot on, that's exactly what gets me. But here's what I'm wondering, did your nephew actually understand why you were quitting, or was it just a game to him? Because if he didn't get the real reason, then what happens when he decides it's not fun anymore and tells you it's okay to drink soda again?

My 8-year-old nephew did the same thing with me over my soda habit, he made me pinky swear to only drink water when I was at his house and then started texting me reminders during the week. I figured it would last two days but I actually went six months without touching a single Coke, which is way more than any gym trainer ever got out of me. Kids just have this weird power to make you feel guilty about breaking a promise, and honestly that's way stronger than any self-discipline I got.
