DAE think a messy brain dump is better than a clean one?
I noticed something weird at work: when I jot down random thoughts on a napkin during a break, I remember 3 times more of them later than when I type them neatly into my phone. Last Tuesday I wrote down a list of 7 things on a greasy paper towel, and by the end of my shift I could still recall all 7, including a joke about a burnt burger. But when I put stuff into my notes app in neat bullet points, I forget half of it by dinner. So here's the debate: is the mess actually doing the work, or am I just fooling myself because the napkin is right in front of me? A friend said messy writing forces your brain to slow down and pay attention, which sounds smart but also like a made up reason. What do you all think? Does anyone else keep scraps of paper around because the clean version feels like it disappears?
