Changed my mind about my kid's $9 souvenir growing crystals kit after what his teacher said
I always figured those kits were junk that never grows anything, but his 3rd grade teacher told me at pickup that the trick is using distilled water, not tap. Now our jar on the windowsill has actual blue crystals after 11 days. Anyone else got one of these sitting half finished in a closet?
Learned the distilled water trick from a youtube video last year and it made a huge difference. Tap water has minerals and stuff that mess with the growing part, so the crystals stay tiny or just turn into cloudy junk. We did the blue kit too and got real crystals around two weeks in, way better than the first try with tap water that did nothing. My nephew's kit from a museum gift shop sat in their closet for like a year before they finally finished it, so you're not alone there.
