Lost $300 on a fake Norton renewal email because I clicked without checking the sender
Got a renewal notice last Tuesday that looked exactly like the real thing, down to the logo, so I paid it and now my card is on someone else's list. Turns out the address was norton-billing dot co instead of dot com and I missed it in like two seconds of scanning. Anyone else almost fall for one of these, and what's your go to trick for spotting fake sender addresses before you click?
Check the actual email address and not just the name that shows up. Most people see "Norton Billing" in their inbox and stop there, but the display name is fake and the real address is hiding behind it. On your phone, tap the sender name once and it usually drops down the full address. On a computer, hover over it and the real one pops up. Also look at what comes after the @ sign, since scammers love stuff like norton-billing dot co or support-norton dot info. Takes like three extra seconds and would've saved you the 300 bucks.
