Can we talk about how a 14 year old at Best Buy made me finally turn on 2FA everywhere?
So last month I was at the Best Buy in Springfield getting a new phone case, and this kid behind the counter, couldn't have been more than 14 or 15, watched me punch in my passcode to unlock my phone and just goes "you know anyone standing behind you can just memorize that, right?" I kind of laughed it off but then he asked if I had two factor turned on for my email, and when I said no he just stared at me. He told me his mom got her bank account drained because her email password was the same as her Netflix password, and that the bad guys don't even need to hack anything, they just guess. That honestly stuck with me more than any article I've read. I went home and spent about two hours turning on 2FA for my email, bank, and Amazon, and fixing the passwords so they're not all some version of my dog's name plus a number. It's annoying having to grab my phone for a code every single time, but I keep thinking about that kid's face when I said no. If you've been putting it off, what's actually stopping you, the hassle or just not wanting to deal with it?
