Back in September I started giving my 9th grade class in Boise the exact same prompt every Monday: describe your weekend in 200 words. The first month was rough, tons of 'it was fun' and 'I hung out with friends' with zero detail. By week 12 I compared the first batch to the last and the difference was wild, kids were adding sensory details and dialogue without me teaching anything new. The only thing I changed was making them read their old ones out loud before writing the new one, hearing their own flat sentences made them fix it themselves. Has anyone else tried repeating a single prompt long term instead of switching it up every time?
