Client showed up with box dye and a Groupon, and I'm still not sure if I handled it right
Last Saturday at my chair in Rockford, a woman came in for a color correction and admitted she'd already put a $12 box dye over her highlights the night before, plus she booked with a Groupon her sister gave her. I looked at the patch test area and her mid-shaft was already grabbing way darker than the ends, and my gut said to stop before I touched anything. I told her I couldn't do a full correction that day and we'd need a strand test and two sessions, and she got pretty quiet and said her cousin does hair out of her kitchen for half my price. She left without booking the follow up, and part of me feels like I lost a client by being too careful, but the other part knows I dodged 4 inches of breakage and a bad review. Some techs I know would've just gone for it, booked the money, and dealt with the damage later. Where do you all draw the line when a client pushes back on the safe plan? Do you stick to your guns or work around what they want?
