My shift on single-use plastics began with a friend's offhand remark

I used to grab plastic bags without thinking until my friend pointed out how long they last in landfills. She said it so casually while we were shopping, but it stuck with me. I started bringing my own bags and even got a reusable water bottle. That small talk honestly rewired how I see everyday choices.

That idea of it rewiring how you see everyday choices really hits home. Did you find that once you changed the bag habit, you started noticing other single-use items in your day? For me, it became hard to ignore things like plastic produce bags or takeout containers. I'm curious if making one change sort of forced you to look at others, and if that ever felt like too much.

Ever feel like you're just trading one kind of guilt for another when you start noticing it all?

Yeah... I know exactly what you mean. Once I started bringing my own bags, I couldn't stop seeing plastic wraps on everything. It does feel like a lot sometimes, like you're noticing a new problem every day. But for me, it helped to just focus on one thing at a time... so it didn't get too overwhelming. Changing one habit really does open your eyes to the rest, and that's okay. We're all just trying to do a little better, you know?

Does it ever seem like once you see one type of waste, you start seeing it everywhere? In my experience, bringing my own bags was just the tip of the iceberg. Suddenly, I noticed all the plastic packaging on groceries, then the disposable cups at coffee shops. It's like your brain gets tuned into a new channel. For me, that led to cutting down on paper towels and using a reusable water bottle. Your mileage may vary, but it feels like a domino effect where one good habit pushes you to make others. Take that with a grain of salt, since it can be overwhelming if you try to do too much at once.
