Went to a tiny creator meetup in a library basement in Dayton and 14 people showed up, which is 4 more than RSVP'd
So I started posting woodworking videos about 8 months ago and mostly just yell at my phone in the garage. Last Saturday I drove 40 minutes to a free creator meetup at the Dayton metro library, mostly to get out of the house. I figured maybe 5 people would show. 14 showed up, and 4 of them didn't even RSVP, they just saw the flyer. There was a guy who does fountain pen reviews, a woman who makes ASMR videos of her chickens, and a retiree who films his model train layout. Nobody there had more than 2,000 followers. We talked for 2 hours about gear, thumbnails, and how we all hate filming ourselves talking. The chicken lady said she got 3 times more views on a video where a hen walked into frame than on anything she planned. I walked out with two new subscribers and a phone number for a guy who wants to trade camera time. Has anyone else been to a local meetup like this, and did it actually lead to anything or was it just a one time thing?
That line about the chicken walking into frame is hilarious, and honestly it tracks, the unplanned stuff always does better. I went to one of these last year and the group chat we started after is still going, two of us still trade tips every couple weeks.
