Rant: I spent 2 years editing audio wrong and my ears finally caught on

So I've been doing voiceover work for this small podcast network since 2022. Every single episode I'd run the same chain: noise removal, then compression, then a limiter. Thought I was being professional. Then last week I watched a breakdown from this mixer dude who explained that my order was squashing all the natural dynamics before the limiter even got a chance to work. I tried swapping it to compression first, then noise removal, then limiter and it sounded like a completely different recording. Two years of flat, lifeless audio that I sent out thinking it was clean. Nobody complained, but now I can't unhear it. Has anyone else had that moment where you realize you've been doing some basic step backwards for way too long? What was your fix?
