I ditched my $200 ring light for 2 cheap lamps from a thrift store
Last month I was doing product videos and my ring light made everything look flat and washed out. A friend who does food photography told me to try using separate lamps at different angles, basically stealing window light. I picked up two old desk lamps for $14 total and aimed them at my desk from opposite sides. The videos look way more natural now, and I have not touched the ring light since. Has anyone else switched to cheaper lighting gear and seen better results?

Did it take you long to get the angles right? I was all in on ring lights until I tried this.
