The Tuesday our old excavator's GPS went down and we found 300 feet of unmarked fiber
Had a rough one last Tuesday on a job in Mesa when our machine control quit mid cut and the operator had to go back to eyeballing grade with a laser. Turns out the GPS dropout was a loose antenna cable, but while we were stopped the locator guy found 300 feet of unmarked fiber running right through our dig zone that nobody had on the plans. We spent the rest of the day hand digging around it and got maybe 40 feet of real work done. Cost us almost $3,000 in standby time and the PM was not happy. Anyone else see more utility strikes since everyone started leaning so hard on model files instead of walking the site?
