Saw a crew in Fresno screwing up a driveway pour and had to bite my tongue
I was in Fresno last Tuesday picking up some rebar and drove past a residential pour on Cedar Ave. The finisher was working his bull float in 95 degree heat with zero shade and no evaporation retarder in sight. I watched for maybe 10 minutes and a hairline crack was already showing near the control joint. The mix looked stiff when it came off the chute, probably a 5 bag mix with barely any slump. I wanted to pull over and say something, but you know how it is pulling up on another crew's job. Has anyone else seen a pour go sideways in weather like that and found a way to speak up without starting a fight?
How do you know a hairline crack near a control joint is even a problem, they're supposed to crack there? I've seen pours look rough in the heat and still hold up fine years later, no retarder needed. Your mileage may vary but I'd say you did the right thing by not pulling over, that little detail isn't worth a confrontation.
