Chatted with a foreman on a big commercial pour near Tampa
He said he'd rather teach a green kid with a good attitude than deal with some old pro who's stuck in his ways, and it got me thinking about how I approach training new guys on the crew, you guys ever had a total rookie surprise you?

Had a buddy tell me about a new kid on his crew who showed up looking like he'd never held a shovel. First week the foreman put him on cleanup and the kid organized the whole job trailer without being asked, labeled everything, made a map on the wall. That rookie ended up being the best worker they'd had in years just because he actually listened and cared.

Man, that story hits hard. It's wild how much just showing you give a damn can set you apart from everyone else on site. Most people wanna complain or cut corners but the ones who actually pay attention and take pride in the little stuff end up being the real backbone of any crew.

Right there with you on this one. It's like some people just get it, you know? They understand that doing a half assed job is just gonna make everyone's life harder, including their own. The way you described it, just showing basic decency and paying attention, that's honestly most of the battle. Feels like common sense but it's rare as hell to find someone who actually follows through on it.

Read something the other day about a construction foreman who said the best hires aren't the ones with years of experience but the ones who actually give a damn. He talked about a guy who showed up late his first day and instead of making excuses, he just owned it and worked twice as hard to catch up. Ended up being one of his most dependable workers. It's like that thing you said about common sense being rare, it's true. People forget that showing up and trying matters way more than pretending you know everything.
