Noticed office printers lasting way longer after we stopped buying remanufactured toner

Over the last 8 months at my client's office, replacing the $12 knockoff toner with OEM cartridges doubled the time between service calls and nobody has yelled at me about paper jams since June, anyone else see that kind of shift?

Actually the wiper blade thing might be a bad comparison. The cheap ones usually have a different rubber compound that hardens faster, not the same thing as OEM toner which actually has a different chemical formula and melting point. Toner's a bit more complex than just brand name vs generic.

Seems like a lot of money to save a few headaches, @wren638.

You ever notice how the same thing happens with like everything these days? My buddy spent years buying cheap wiper blades that'd streak after a month, finally coughed up for the name brand ones and they're still going strong a year later. It's this whole race to the bottom with price where people forget that sometimes paying a little more upfront actually saves you headaches down the road. Same with my lawnmower - the generic gas I used to use would gunk it up every season, but the premium stuff keeps it running smooth all summer. Seems like the office printer thing is just another example of that pattern in action.
