I thought client data recovery shops were a scam until one in Houston pulled 14 years of family photos off a drive I'd written off
A customer brought me a clicking drive last month and I told her straight up that a clean room service would run $800 to $1500 and probably fail anyway, so she should just call it a loss. She took it to a place off Westheimer instead and they got 40GB back for $350, including her kid's first steps video. So now I'm wondering how many drives I've written off over the years that someone with better gear could have saved, and does anyone here send out clean room work or do you all just tell customers the truth and move on?
