Had a serious issue with my Kirby Morgan comms unit last month in the Gulf
The surface unit just cut out completely during a 90 foot inspection dive off Galveston. I used to think those units were bulletproof, but a corroded pin in the umbilical connector was the culprit. What's your go-to method for checking those connections before a dive?

Our shop in Panama City runs a multimeter continuity check on every pin before the gear goes out. I don't trust a visual inspection alone anymore.

Yeah, that's smart... a visual check can miss so much. Reminds me of a buddy who wired a whole control panel, looked perfect, but one terminal block screw was just floating on a stripped thread... no bite at all. Everything seemed tight until they powered up and a whole section was dead. Cost him half a day of rework. Sometimes your eyes just tell you what you want to see.

Trust the multimeter, not your eyes. My old dive buddy learned that the hard way when his "bulletproof" unit decided to take a coffee break at 60 feet.
