Vent: My cousin said comic fans just want to argue, not talk

We were at a cookout in Tacoma and I was telling him about the new X-Men run, and he cut me off to say 'You guys just want to prove you know more than each other.' It hit different because he's not into comics at all, so he was just saying what he sees from the outside. Do you think we come off that way to people who don't read them?

Honestly, he might have a point. I've seen threads dissolve into fights over who was the real Green Lantern in 1987. That energy can feel like a quiz show, not a chat. To someone outside, all that correcting probably just looks like arguing to win.

But getting the facts right matters too.

Ngl, it's not about proving we know more. We just care about the details because the stories matter to us. But I get how that looks like arguing from the outside.
