The union rep told me my 'perfect' framing crew was cutting corners
Ran a small crew doing a basement reno in Boise last spring. I've framed for 15 years and thought we were solid. A union rep walked through during inspection and pointed out our top plates were lapped wrong on two load bearing walls. I argued with him for 10 minutes, even pulled my code book out. He showed me the header detail and I felt like an idiot. He wasn't there to bust us, just happened to know the local AHJ rejects that exact pattern. I rewired my whole approach to checking my own work now. Anyone else had a stranger find a flaw you'd been repeating for years?
