The neighborhood watch meeting that flipped my recycling stance

I've always been the person who throws everything in the blue bin without rinsing, figured the facility sorts it out. Last month our street rep stood up and said the local plant rejects nearly 30% of loads from our zip code because of greasy pizza boxes and peanut butter jars. I got so defensive at first, argued my single family's waste was nothing compared to the apartment complex down the road. Then I volunteered at the sorting station in Baltimore for two hours on Saturday and watched a whole batch get pulled because of one soiled container. I still think the system is flawed, but now I actually rinse my jars and it feels less like giving in and more like not being the reason some hard worker loses their shift... has anyone else changed a small habit out of spite or guilt, not belief?
