That time I argued with a friend about climate change while driving my gas guzzler

We were on the 101 near Santa Barbara, and I was explaining why individual action matters while my old truck got maybe 15 miles to the gallon. Ever have a moment where your own argument turned around and bit you?

Did you end up changing your mind, or just feel like a hypocrite?

Honestly, why does it have to be either one? Can't someone just see a situation differently when they get new info? Tbh people act like changing your view is some huge moral failure. Sometimes you just realize your first take was wrong, and that's actually a good thing. It's way worse to stick to a bad idea just to avoid looking like a flip flopper.

Totally get that feeling, like when I tried to explain recycling to my nephew while tossing a soda can. Honestly @the_elliot, I think it just means you're paying attention, not that you're a hypocrite.

Know exactly what you mean. I was just telling my friend how bad fast fashion is while wearing a shirt I bought last week. It's that weird moment where you see the gap between what you know and what you do. Feels pretty bad in the moment, but maybe it's the first step to actually doing better.
