I put cinnamon in my coffee grinder with the beans and my pour over tasted like a candle store
So about 3 weeks ago I read somewhere that grinding a stick of cinnamon with your beans makes the coffee taste warmer and sweeter. I dumped a whole cinnamon stick in with 20 grams of beans and ran it through my burley grinder. The pour over smelled amazing but tasted like I was drinking a Bath and Body Works candle, super harsh and bitter with a weird soapy aftertaste. I later found out cinnamon burns fast and clogs the burrs, and I had to take the grinder apart with a brush to get all the oily powder out. The next 4 pots still had a faint cinnamon ghost flavor even after cleaning twice. Has anyone actually made this work, or do you just sprinkle it in the cup after brewing?
Yikes, that candle flavor means the cinnamon oils got scorched and stuck in your burrs. Cinnamon is way too fine and oily to grind with beans, it just burns and leaves that soapy mess behind. Just sprinkle a pinch in the cup after brewing if you want the taste without wrecking your grinder.
