Rant: used to eyeball every Z offset on the mill, now I touch off with a feeler gauge and shim stock
For 6 years I set my Z by jogging down until it looked close and locked it, which ate about 15 minutes per setup and scrapped 2 parts last spring alone. Last month a guy on the second shift showed me his feeler gauge trick with a 0.002 shim and my setups dropped to under 5 minutes with zero scrapped parts since. Does anybody else here still eyeball it or am I the last one who was doing it the hard way?
