Unpopular opinion: skipping beef one day a week does more than recycling everything
I was at a cookout in Columbus last month and this guy Dave, who drives a diesel truck and hunts every fall, told me he cut beef down to twice a week and put that money toward better insulation in his attic. I almost laughed at first because it sounded backwards, but then I ran the numbers myself and a pound of ground beef takes a crazy amount of water and land compared to most other food. Now on the other side of this, my neighbor recycles everything, drives a Prius, and flies to Florida three times a year, and she thinks she is way greener than Dave. I honestly don't know who is right here. Recycling feels good and it's easy, but flying once can blow past a whole year of small stuff you do at home. So which one actually matters more, the small daily habits everyone can do, or the big stuff that's harder to give up? What got you to actually cut something out of your routine?
