Spent 3 hours drying out a fuel tank on a '72 Mustang

Thought I could just drain it and run. Wrong. Moisture got trapped in the baffles. Had to pull the tank, slosh it with isopropyl, and let it sit with a shop light for 2 days. Anyone else deal with hidden water in storage tanks?

Oh man, I had a buddy who tried the "quick isopropyl trick" once. Ended up with a fuel pump that sounded like a blender full of rocks and a tow bill that made the three day drying session look cheap.

I've always wondered how big of a deal water in a fuel tank really is. Three hours of labor and two days of drying for a tank that's going to have gas sloshing around in it anyway seems like overkill. A little isopropyl and a few minutes of shaking would probably knock out enough moisture to get you back on the road. Unless you're planning on storing the car for another few decades, I'm not convinced it's worth that kind of hassle.
