Picked climate controlled storage over a barn, cost me twice as much but maybe worth it?
Had my 57 Bel Air sitting in a buddy's barn out in Kentucky for 3 winters. He never charged me anything, but every spring I'd find mouse nests in the trunk and the chrome was starting to pit from condensation. Finally bit the bullet and rented a 10x20 climate unit near Lexington for $285 a month. That's $3,420 a year. The barn was free. Six months in, the old chrome still looks the same as when I moved it, no rust flakes on the floor, no droppings anywhere. I tell myself I'm paying for peace of mind but sometimes I wonder if I'm just throwing cash at a problem that a good car cover and some mothballs would've solved. Anyone else pay up for climate storage and regret it later? Or is this just the cost of keeping a car that actually matters?
Save your money and put it toward a real car cover and a dehumidifier bucket from Walmart, because that setup plus a barn would've done the same thing for a fraction of the cost. Climate storage is mostly a nice feeling, not a cure, and mice don't care how much you pay per month.
