Snapped a head bolt on my 350 rebuild and learned a $12 tool beats my ego
I was torqueing the heads on my 350 small block in the garage two Saturdays back and felt that sickening soft pop on bolt number seven. The bolt stretched and snapped clean off about a half inch below the deck. I had been using my old beam style torque wrench because I figured it was good enough, and it turns out it was reading about 15 ft lbs heavy the whole time. Dropped $80 on a calibrator and my clicker was off too, so now I check both before every build. Anyone else wreck a block trusting a torque wrench they never tested, or am I the only one who had to learn this the hard way?
