Por-15 vs rust converter, the cheap test that changed my mind

Tbh I spent last weekend testing both on the same patch of frame rust on my 72 Chevelle, split it down the middle with masking tape. The $18 rust converter from AutoZone flashed over fast but left a chalky film, while the Por-15 I got from Summit for $42 for a quart actually cured hard enough to dent my fingernail. Ngl, the $24 difference is worth it for the durability alone, but I'm curious if anyone's had Por-15 peel when they didn't scuff the surface right first. Has anyone else tried one of those off-brand ceramic coatings instead?

Did you sand down to bare metal before you hit it with the Por-15? I made that mistake once on my truck and it peeled right off, but when I rough it up with 80 grit first, that stuff holds like crazy.
