I said rat rods were junk until a guy at the Syracuse show popped his hood
Always figured rat rods were just sloppy builds with no real work in them, and I'd say so to anybody who'd listen. Then at the Syracuse Nationals in July a fella named Dale showed me the frame on his 1930 Ford pickup, all boxed and gusseted, nicer welds than half the shiny cars parked around him. I still like a clean paint job, but I was wrong to lump those guys in with the folks who just spray rust sealer over rot. Any of you run a rat rod and deal with that same assumption at shows?
Man, I used to say the same thing about rat rods, figured it was all fake rust and zip ties. Then I actually looked under one at a local show and shut right up, the guy had more time in his frame than most trailer queens I've seen. Good on you for giving Dale's truck a real look instead of just walking by.
