Got kicked out of a club meet for driving my car 40 miles instead of trailering it
So last Saturday I drove my 66 Chevelle about 40 miles to a cars and coffee up in Allentown, and a couple guys from a local restoration club were handing out flyers for their big spring meet. I asked about bringing my car and one of them looks at my rocker panels, sees the road grime, and goes we prefer members trailer their cars so they stay clean for judging. I said thanks and walked off. Here's my thing, and I know this is gonna ruffle some feathers. Trailering a classic is fine if yours is a show piece worth 30 grand or more. But mine is a driver. I put about 2,000 miles on it last season. Some of it is even on gravel. That meet was 3 hours long and I spent more time talking to people in the parking lot with my hood up than they probably did inside the rope. I get preserving the cars, I really do, but a car that never moves is just a lawn ornament with a nice paint job. Anybody else get side eyed at a club event for actually putting miles on their build? Or am I the odd one here.
