The crosswalk button on 5th Ave that I never pressed for 9 months
Turns out it's a dummy button, the light just cycles on its own. Some guy in a city truck laughed and said locals never touch it, now I just wait like everyone else. Anyone got other fake buttons or signs around town that are pure theater?

Those fake buttons actually serve a real purpose in some cities, they keep impatient people busy so they stop jaywalking or messing with the actual signal box. The city saves money on real wiring and gets fewer complaints because folks feel like they did something. Pretty clever con when you think about it, we are basically paying taxes to press a button that does nothing.
