Rant: walking a new city beats taking the bus tour and I'll argue about it
Last month my sister and I hit Montreal for 4 days and we split up on purpose to test this. She booked the double decker bus tour for $46 and I just walked the side streets near our rental in Le Plateau. She came back with 200 photos of buildings from behind glass and said it felt like watching the city on TV. I came back with a sore back and a story about a guy selling bagels out of his garage who let me stand in the warm room for 20 minutes while he talked about his oven. The bus got her to 12 spots in 3 hours but she couldn't tell me one smell or one sound from any of them. Walking got me 4 blocks in the same time, but I know which alley smelled like fresh bread now. Is the bus worth it if you have limited time, or does the slow walk always win? I keep going back and forth on it.
