Pro tip: That overgrown lot on 5th Street is actually a community garden now

I walked past this empty lot near my apartment for like 8 months and just assumed it was trash, but last Saturday I saw a sign for a work day and figured why not. Turns out a lady named Rosa has been quietly turning it into a garden with herbs and veggies for anyone to take, no strings attached. Has anyone else stumbled onto a spot in your town that you wrote off but ended up being way cooler than you'd expect?

That "quietly turning it into a garden" part really got me. I had a similar thing happen with an old railroad bridge near my house. For years I thought it was just junk and graffiti, then a neighbor told me the city turned it into a walking trail with these little platforms where people leave painted rocks and notes. I walked it one Sunday morning and found a rock that said "you matter" in sloppy blue paint. Hit me harder than I expected. Now I go out there like once a week and it's honestly one of my favorite spots.
