Picked the new apartment on 5th over the one by the river and the 3am noise is a whole different city

When I moved back to town 6 years ago I had two places on the table: a quiet spot over on 5th near the old library, or a cheaper one two blocks off the river with the train bridge right there. I went with the river one and for the first stretch it was magic, fog on the water in the morning and that low rumble of the trains. Then the bar crowd found the block and now Friday nights it sounds like everyone in the neighborhood is arguing at once. Curious if anyone else picked the "charming" option and got the 3am version instead.
