Pro tip: the cashier at WinCo saw my $8 basket and showed me the markdown rack in the back
Two weeks ago I was at the WinCo on North Academy in Colorado Springs with a sad little basket, like $8 worth of rice and two cans of beans, and the cashier named Dee asked if I knew about the clearance rack in the back corner by the dairy case. I said no, and she walked me over on her break, which she did not have to do. The rack was full of stuff with orange stickers, bread for 79 cents, a bag of apples for a buck, yogurt cups for a quarter each, all of it still good. She said the trick is to go Tuesday mornings because that is when they pull stuff that is close to the sell by date, and the meat gets marked down even more if you catch it before noon. I spent $8.50 and walked out with two loaves of bread, a bag of apples, six yogurts, and a pack of chicken thighs. Now I swing by that corner first before I even look at the regular aisles, and I have been eating way better on maybe $25 a week. Does anyone else have a store where the workers actually point you to the deals, and is Tuesday really the day everywhere or does it depend on the store?
