The $300 fancy water filter I bought for my kids now sits in the pantry

I thought my tap water was fine until my middle kid refused to drink anything that wasn't from a specific plastic bottle we bought at a gas station in Dayton, so I spent $300 on a countertop filter system. Turns out the kid just liked the tiny cups that came with the bottle, not the water itself, and now we're back to filling sippy cups straight from the sink. Has anyone else thrown cash at a solution that ended up solving a completely different, way dumber problem?

Ha, okay I gotta admit, I used to be the person who rolled their eyes at expensive water filters. Like, just drink the tap water, what's wrong with you people? But then my own kid went through a phase where she would only drink water from this dumb cartoon cup we got at a theme park. I bought like three different filter pitchers trying to make her happy. Turns out she just wanted the straw to be purple. So yeah, I get it now. The money was never about the water, it was about the tiny, ridiculous thing their brain latched onto.
