My boss's one sentence on a job quote changed how I bid forever
I used to just guess on labor for small painting jobs. Toss out a number, hope it stuck. Then my boss at the Tulsa shop looked at my quote for a 3 bedroom house and said, "You're pricing like you're the one doing the work, not the one paying taxes on it." That hit me. I started adding 15% for overhead and 10% for screw ups, and suddenly I wasn't losing money on half my jobs. Has anyone else had a supervisor say something that basically rewired their whole process? What was the phrase that did it for you?
