I thought journaling was a waste of time until I tried writing only 3 lines at night, and now I've kept it up for 7 months
For years I rolled my eyes at the idea of keeping a journal. I figured it was for people with too much free time and not enough real problems. My wife got me a $12 notebook back in March and I let it sit on my nightstand collecting dust for close to 6 weeks. Then one night I couldn't sleep over some dumb fight I'd had at work, so I grabbed it and wrote three lines: what happened, how I felt, and one thing I'd do different. That was it. No long paragraphs, no deep soul searching, just three stupid lines. I've done it almost every night since, and the odd part is I can look back at stuff from May that felt huge at the time and now I can barely remember why I cared. It's like the notebook takes the sting out of things because I stop carrying them around in my head. Curious if anyone else has tried the 3 line thing or if I'm just late to something everybody already knows about.
