Appreciation post for actually reading the whole news article before commenting

I used to be one of those people who just skimmed the headline and jumped into the comments section with my hot take. But last week I forced myself to read a full 800 word piece about local school funding in Phoenix before replying, and I realized I had it all wrong because the article explained the chart I kept misreading.

You're missing the bigger pattern here @davis.noah. People skim headlines, then argue about things they don't understand, and suddenly everyone is mad over nothing. Happens with everything from car recalls to city council votes. Reading the full story takes an extra three minutes but saves you from looking foolish when someone calls you out on a detail you missed. Guess it just comes down to whether you want to be right or just loud.

Gotta disagree here. Skimming headlines is a survival skill when you've got 5 minutes and 50 hot takes to drop. Reading the whole thing just slows you down and you still end up arguing with someone who didn't read it either.
