Told a client we had to wait for proper drying, glad I did
They wanted the carpet down fast, even though the pad was soaked from a leak. I worried about future smells and damage, but they seemed annoyed. We let it dry fully, and now the job looks great with no callbacks. Small wins like this remind me why standards matter.

Nothing worse than a client breathing down your neck to rush a job that will definitely come back to haunt you. Imagine the call in two months, "Hey, why does my floor smell like a wet dog and feel like a sponge?" Good on you for sticking to the process. Letting stuff dry properly is the difference between a real fix and a temporary cover-up that blows up later.

Reminds me of when my cousin tried to paint over damp walls because his landlord was pushing for a quick turnover. He used cheap paint on still-moist drywall, and soon black spots appeared everywhere. The smell was SO bad they had to redo the entire apartment. @charlesk88 knows that skipping steps just costs more later.

But come on, is it always that big a deal? Sometimes you just need to get a place livable fast, and a little paint can hold things over. Henryp40 makes it sound like every shortcut ends in disaster, but I've seen plenty of quick patches that lasted just fine.

Do they ever think about the LONG-TERM headaches from cutting corners? A callback for mold or smell can ruin your rep and cost way more than just waiting a bit. It's like paying for the job twice.
