Knee kicker vs power stretcher on a big living room, lesson learned the hard way

Did a 20x15 living room in Portland last Tuesday and tried to save time with just the knee kicker. Big mistake, that carpet looked like a wrinkled bed sheet by the time I got to the far wall. Had to pull it all up and reset with a power stretcher, took an extra 2 hours honestly. The power stretcher gave me that even tension across the whole span, no ripples near the seams. Has anyone else fought through a big open space with the wrong tool and regretted it?

Did a 12x14 bedroom once with just the knee kicker because the power stretcher was in the truck and I figured it was a small room. Same deal, ripples showed up right after I trimmed the edges. Had to redo the whole thing and rent a stretcher from Home Depot. Now I just go grab the power stretcher first thing, even for closets. Saves me the headache of pulling up tack strips and re-stretching.
