Carpet seam iron took 4 hours to figure out, or did I just waste it?
Tackled a tight hallway in a 1980s condo off I-35 and the seam kept lifting no matter what I did with the iron temp. Took 4 hours to realize the floor pad was uneven and needed a shim, not more heat. Anyone else burn a morning on a stupid fix like that or do you pull the pad and re-level first?

Did you check if the subfloor is level with a straight edge before you ever fired up the iron? I learned that one the hard way on a bathroom job, the pad can look flat but be a quarter inch high in the middle. A shim under the pad is the right move, but sometimes the glue on the old pad has hardened into lumps that cause the same problem. Next time, scrape those bumps down first, it saves you from chasing the seam all afternoon. For the hallway, did you end up re-pulling the carpet or just leaving the shim in and calling it good?
