Question about the trim carpenter who told me to caulk cabinet joints before painting
I was on a kitchen job in Portland about 6 weeks ago and the trim guy watched me fight with a mitre joint on a maple cabinet face for way too long. He walked over and said the old guys always ran a thin bead of paintable caulk in the joint before paint because wood moves and the crack will come back in a year either way. I was skeptical because caulk on stained wood is a mess, but he was talking about painted cabinets. Did it on the next 14 doors and the finish came out way cleaner than filler. Curious if anyone here caulks trim joints before paint or if you stick with wood filler and sanding.
