My 70 year old neighbor watched me cut a rafter and asked why I was measuring from the wrong end
I was cutting a rafter in my garage on Saturday and Harold from next door wandered over and asked why I kept hooking my tape at the top plate instead of the ridge. I told him that's how I learned it, and he just laughed and said his first boss in Akron made him cut 40 rafters backwards before he got it right. He grabbed my spare square and showed me his way in about 30 seconds, and the rafter dropped in dead level on the first try. Anyone else had an old timer correct them on something they thought they had down cold?
